WHY IS READING AT HOME SO IMPORTANT?
Brain Development
Reading regularly with your children, starting at birth, greatly affects how well their brains develop, which makes them better learners when they start school.
Advanced Vocabulary
A child who is read one book a day hears 300,000 more words than a child who is not read to; 5 books a day the child hears 1,400,000 more words.
Foreign Language
When a child is exposed to reading at a very early age, the brain develops a lifelong capacity to learn language, even a foreign language (Nelson, 2000).
Increased Imagination
A book can take a child anywhere. By reading with a child they learn about people, places, and events they wouldn’t know about otherwise.
Enroll Your Children
Children, from birth to age five, enrolled in our program receive a FREE quality book every month mailed to them at home. Each book is specially chosen for your child’s age and level of development – and because it’s fun to read!
Fill out and return the registration form attached. We mail a different book for each age, so please be sure to register EVERY CHILD UNDER FIVE in your family.
Support Books in Every Bag
Books in Every Bag is FREE in participating communities. The program is supported through donations in your local area from neighbors, civic groups, businesses, schools, churches, and local organizations and YOU.
